Notre Dame de Rouen

In the near monochromatic diptych, the silhouette of the cathedral occupies virtually the entire space. With its light but at the same time stately structure, the cathedral bears features of a fortress. Its large open portal in the center of the painting seems to devour everything, even a smaller church discernible in the background, which features four crosses, creating a dramatic overall impression. The delicate facade of the cathedral is thus transformed into a frightening net.
